4:30 PM CASE STUDY: Building Digital Strategies from the Ground Up: How Southern Grampians Shire Council Have Improved Digital Capabilities and Services for Future Economic Growth and Community Experience

Despite being a small rural council, Southern Grampians Shire Council needed to accelerate their digital strategy for the growth and experience of their community. Through realising their digital capabilities and the areas for improvement, the council has identified the services in need of innovation and the processes and frameworks to be embedded in order to keep in pace with growing modernisation and digitally enabled services. While the journey is relatively new for the council, starting from the ground up has given a clear vision for their future direction in meeting customer and community needs and ensuring that internally they are ready for the drastic changes these strategies may bring about. In this session, Hugh will discuss:

  • Evaluating the process first and identifying what needs to be done: Exploring the capacity of the community and business to use technology and the leaders able to direct digital transformation
  • Partnering with neighbouring councils, external services and the state and federal government to build capability and secure investment for enabling the transformation
  • Unlocking the public digital ecosystem through developing a smart communities and smart cities framework to improve service delivery
